In January, 2010, this UAE citizen who is the son of the former UAE ruler and brother to current UAE ruler, was acquitted of having committed heinous acts of bodily torture on an Afghani grain merchant. According to his lawyer, the videotape of the torture itself, which received global notoriety, could have been tampered with. Furthermore, the lawyer said that his client had been using drugs that made him violent. Other individuals appearing on the videotape - including individuals wearing police uniforms - have received punishments for their role in aiding the torture, according to UAE media reports.
